Utilizing the Bar Code Label feature in Pallet Connect

1. Pallet Connect successfully tracks inventory and production; when supplier POs and Customer Orders are entered and production is captured. However some companies have found Bar Code Labels a useful tool and they are an optional feature in Pallet Connect.

This feature allows for Bar Codes to be printed and scanned.

They can be used to label products in the warehouse. The labels can also be used to scan during production, for example, "capture cut".

2. EQUIPMENT NEEDED: The labels can be printed on a label printer or a regular printer.

TIP! See related articles on Adding a Zebra Printer and Adding a Receipt Printer.

A hand held scanner is the preferred equipment to use. Pallet Connect is compatible with most scanners. It should be Bluetooth enabled (to connect to a tablet or phone), and it needs to be able read "Code128" type barcodes.

The labels can also be scanned using a cell phone with a QR code scanner.

3. ENABLE BAR CODES: Navigate to the main menu and click "Settings"

4. Click "System Settings"

5. Click this search field and type in barcode or search for barcodes in "features" and "production".

6. Click here to enable the bar code feature

7. Click this dropdown to set the bar code type. The CODE 128 is the lined bar code or a QR code can be chosen.

8. Select this dropdown to choose the label size e.g. 3" x 3".

9. Click "Save Settings"

10. BAR CODES IN PRODUCTION: Existing bar codes can be scanned in during production and this replaces typing in the item name.

Bar codes can be scanned for Cut, Cut Cant, Build, Plate, Heat Treat, Notch, Paint and Misc.

Once capture is started and the system requests the item name, click "Scan Barcodes".

11. Type in the bar code or scan into the system. Click "complete scanning" to save. The item and quantity scanned is now used in the production process.

12. PRINTING LABELS: Once saved, the system will prompt to print labels for the new item produced.

TIP: To print labels from the stock item profile see related article.

13. Click here to indicate the number of stacks needed.

14. Click "Next"

15. The system will then divide the total into the selected stacks. The quantities can be edited but need to add up to the "total count" shown.

Then select the number of labels needed.

16. Click "Print" to complete.

17. Select from your previously set up zebra printers, or if none are set up, a PDF preview will be displayed.

The bar code label shows the item name, the quantity in the stack, the bar code and an internal reference number (that can be used in the global search).
